    Emmy Awards for Series 1991

It was a time of TV in flux. Many series that were praised were winding up their runs, while others lost their footing when they returned in the fall. But it was a great season for TV, with one of the strongest ever fields for Best Drama. Let's take a look back to the Emmys of 1991 in this poll.

I do think though that it is mandatory viewing to take out one hour of your time to see the episode of the short-lived Gabriel's Fire that won him a much-deserved Emmy. He's magnificent in it.

It was painful for me to bypass thirtysomething 's magnificent final season (or for Melanie Mayron) and Dana Delany for China Beach in ead, but China Beach's final season was a stunner, and that was Angela Lansbury 's best showcase on Murder She Wrote, another favorite show of mine.

Too bad about what she became later in life, she was a genuine comedic talent.

I'm going to aim to make up the 1990 poll tomorrow, although given the results here, it is easy to say that Twin Peaks will take all three it is up for, even though I don't agree with Piper Laurie's eading placement for its short first season. Also, some actors do not have submission episodes attached, so we will either decide on one or two episodes to include or leave them blank.

Sad to see Michael Jeter's dismal support for Evening Shade in these polls. I wonder if the show's lack of visibility/availability is partly to blame for this. He certainly faces some stiff competition in his category from comedies that have remained more popular to boot!

I voted for Jeter in the 1993 poll. I do think the show's low profile these days has hurt it although a complete DVD set was put out in 2018 or 2019. Evening Shade is one of the most entertaining sitcoms of the 90s
