It wasn't even obvious with the Golden Globe snub. It was the SAG overperformance which established the film's nomination and win potential.

Not that I agree with Jman entirely, but I vividly remember it being quite surprising that Youn was snubbed for the Golden Globes. She wasn't the frontrunner to win at the time, but she seemed like the consensus choice for recognition for Minari. I know this, because I was absolutely devastated watching those nominations and seeing that both Delroy Lindo and Youn were snubbed

Yes, AMANKa maintained the frontrunner status until the SAG snub.

But 'Minari' had so much Golden Globes controversy with all the category placement thing.

Does The Actor, like, have a release date? Or Freud’s Last Session? Seeing some predictions with these contenders and I’m inclined to put them in mine myself, but I’d need clarity on when we can expect them to come out.

I don't think 'Freud's Last Session' will be ready in time. Filming was supposed to start early this year, but Anthony Hopkins is about to make 'Those About to Die' and they never announced the casting for Anna Freud (I'm assuming she's a character in the film since she's mentioned in the premise unless the film only has two actors and is all about the session).

Yeah, if they still haven't even filmed it then it's not going to be ready. It would take a miracle. It kinda screams 2024 release.

While you can't rely on IMDb's production status in general, I would bet that the film is already shooting simply based on the number of crew people listed (not producers but people who get hired only when things are in motion like eg camera assistants, gaffer, etc.). There are way too many "lower-level" crew listed for it to be still in pre-production imo.

Unless he can do both at the same time. Maybe his role is supporting in 'Those About to Die' or they can film around him.

I just checked one of my other sources (where I often get my filming dates from) and they actually set the status to filming on Jan 30. And "Those About to Die" was set to filming on Mar 20.

Those status changes normally don't happen automatically there and if anything are a bit later than actual start of filming, so if "Freud's Last Session" is small and the other actors aren't any notable names, I think it could have wrapped already. No guarantee, of course. Just saying that based on all the (other) movies I've tracked over the years, that crew part of the IMDb page clearly looks like it is (or possibly has been) filming already imo.

I'm not invested enough in this movie to do a deep dive but anyone who is... look for Instagram/Twitter/FB pages of crew people - you might find a definitive answer there.

As the resident ambassador of Beloved Veteran™ affairs, I took it upon myself to do a little research to solve this mystery. I had a look at the crew, and while none of them posted anything like "OMG just wrapped on a Freud film", I did discover that the crew is mostly based in Ireland, and that Napkins himself has been in Ireland since late February (or rather, was in Ireland from late February until a few weeks ago in early March, so there's no indication of whether he is still there), and he has grown a beard very similar to Freud, so I think it is safe to assume they have filmed it, or are currently in the process of filming.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a quick edit and they squeeze it into cinemas at the end of the year - although I think a film like this needs a festival to build buzz, and I don't know if September for TIFF is achievable, or if they will just wait for Sundance, like the previous big Tony Napkins vehicle.

    Domingo
    Hopkins
    Murphy
    Phoenix (Napoleon)
Pope - hoping he's not the new Oscar Isaac/Emily Blunt lol

Too biopic heavy - 100% - but hey, it's March and "nobody knows anything". Probably DiCaprio enters the top 5, but he's been nominated just once since his Oscar win, and has became sort of a walking meme, and not for the right reasons... we'll see.

I need to know more about some of these fictional stories

In Leo’s defence, he’s only had two roles period since his Oscar win (albeit both BP nominees but still) and he was never the focus/main Oscar selling point of the film.

I mean, Leo survived widespread hostility from males circa Titanic. He'll probably survive some online people upset that he hasn't embroiled himself in a shitty/doomed marriage to satisfy their idea of maturity. You'd think Clooney's career shot into the stratosphere after his ONTD-approved pairing with his "superior" Amal.

Yes, that's the reason people criticize DiCaprio.

Is Roger Friedman credible? He's saying De Niro is apparently lead in Killers of the Flower Moon. I suppose we will know more after Cannes.

I hadn't really realized it until you've mentioned it like this. It’s kind of crazy that he’s been in just 2 movies since 2015, with a 3rd one only coming out later this year. Especially since he used to work more frequently prior to his Oscar win.
