mixed positive reviews, 73 on Metacritic, compared to the anomaly acclaimed that was the OG, Wakanda Forever is out. it'll be just a technical player this time around. Maverick's slot is officially safe and confirmed w Avatar possibly taking the other blockbuster slot should reviews and reactions mimic similar to the first film

WF is still very much IN> 94% on RT is very good. Most Oscar vehicles don't have that. Don't look Up has a metascroe of 49 and it was nominated
Endgame had a 94% & NWH 93% on RT. Marvel movies are always held to a higher standard since the beginning since only the OG BP was and is still the only film from the franchise to get BP nom and that was an outlier in itself. still not seeing 3 populist blockbusters making it in, so its either Wakanda Forever or Avatar and my bet is on the latter since Cameron is also challenging for the 4th/5th BD slot
Maybe it's my stan self speaking but I'm starting to think there's enough room for Decision to Leave to crack here.
So now that Wakanda Forever is OUT, we'll see if Maverick is the only blockbuster nominated or if Avatar will make it too. Let's gooo.
I think Avatar: The Way of Water always had an easier time to be nominated here. But it still needs a better consensus than Wakanda Forever.
a mid-70s MC would do Avatar just fine here, without BP in the mix.

How are people still doubting Top Gun: Maverick? If it gets snubbed, it would be considered one of the worst snubs ever, considering its colossal success critically, financially, industrially, etc. The Oscars will do everything in their power to make sure the biggest blockbuster of the year, which happens to be the biggest non-scifi/fantasy film ever gets nominated here, lol. This is no Spider-Man whose target audience is kids and teens primarily and whose reviews don’t come close either.
Relax. Top Gun is near-lock for BP nomination.

Maverick is not getting snub, if it survived the festival season bombardment as well as the first of the 2 other major blockbuster contendees, its pretty much safe for the nom, doubt Avatar will forge the same anomaly factor that'll push TG out. if anything it'll be these two that make in the Top 10
