Which is why Naomi Ackie will either be praised or eviscerated.
Kinda good, kinda meh doesn't seem to go far.
Ackie will be fine.
A biopic performance is still subjective but I agree it’s the least subjective type of performance because you have a benchmark of the “real character”. So it becomes this imitation contest posing as the acting contest. Because even I admit that sometimes acting contests are… like weird, if you assume they are all about performance and not the business of promotion.
I tend to judge acting as emoting personally, I guess.
If Babylon doesn't fail and Robbie stays in Lead, it's going to be a hard road for Ackie.
If Ackie's film is a hit it's Robbie who will have a hard road.
Robbie's film is an unlikely financial hit, so it will have to be a huge critical hit and beloved by the industry for an actress playing Whitney to not pose a challenge to her.
And that doesn't even put into account that judging by her acting in the trailer, she might not get the raves necessary for her to get nominated even if the film itself does.
Well, even if I Wanna Dance... makes some money, it might just be a contender for Best Actress, while Babylon might be a general contender.
And I don't know why people are judging so much based on one trailer, but well, on paper this is not exactly the type of role that Academy snub (obviously, if the film doesnt fail).
Just want to say that I wish A24 would run a campaign for Mia Goth in Pearl. Of course it would be fruitless but baby that is ACTING lmao.
I agree about Mia Goth campaign
Dammit, she's a fucking incredible![]()
