BTW, Daniels' debut "Swiss Army Man" was snubbed by DGA after nominations from Gotham, Spirit and ICP #4.

Not sure if the Spielberg film is the type to win director but at the moment I have a hard time seeing the other men win a second (or AGI winning a third) with Spielberg right there. What's the narrative for any of them? It would have to be undeniable.

    1. Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans
    2. Damien Chazelle, Babylon
    3. Alejandro González Ińárritu, Bardo
    4. Sam Mendes, Empire of Light
    5. Sarah Polley, Women Talking

    6. Daniels, Everything Everywhere All at Once (Feels like a branch that might ~rightfully~ reject them)
    7. Todd Field, TÁR (Too weird? Think he could definitely pull a lone director nom)
    8. James Cameron, Avatar 2 (Not ruling him out!!!)
    9. Noah Baumbach, White Noise (Too divisive?)
    10. Florian Zeller, The Son (Might end up as a writing/acting achievement first)

Okay curiosity is really killing me.

If The Fabelmans is deemed too intimate and mopey to win BD(and BP) for the AMPAS basics, then who do y'all feel is walking away with this one if not Spielberg? I am not so sure with Scorsese out of the race and Chazelle is also still too young to win his second statue IMO.
