Angela Bassett - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
All of those were in films the actors branch really liked, they were not a genre film.
And the Marina mention bothers me because she was a bit showy even if she was a random surprise, I can imagine someone finishing Roma and listing her #1 in their ballots and viewing her as an MVP even. What I can't imagine is a good chunk of people finishing EEAAO and loving it then putting JLC above Hsu.
You know, there were times when such comments were hurtful for a minute, but then lately I try to pay more attention at the motivations of the other party. You are clearly going through something, which results in you always wanting to go overly personal/direct hurtful in your comments. I just want you to know that you are not alone and I genuinely hope that those around you will help you to deal with your issues!
Oh, and since it's your second comment about my account deletion over some prediction, I'm not ashamed to admit that the ten months I spent away from AW were mandatory, because in addition of taking care of my elderly parents during the first period of COVID, as well as being anxious about whether I would have a job with the continuous layoffs in my company, I also lost one of my friends who committed suicide. So I didn't really want to be around people. It's been hard, but I've made peace with life, and honestly? I'm not here to please people or to follow the trends. I'm here to have fun, to speculate, and to read some very insightful individual's thoughts on movies.
Peace out.

Especially when Yalitza and Marina worked as a duo. As bee mentioned no internal competition.
The only thing in "favor" of JLC is never been nominated, but considering:
-She's, at best, the fourth prefered cast member of the cast behind Yeoh, Quan and Hsu (Heck, maybe some people prefered Hong at the end over Curtis).
-Her internal competition not only has the better role, but also the key scenes and the closure of the story.
-And the first instances which both had been in competition/comparision (few, but still), Hsu had beated Curtis.
-This AMPAS is becoming less and less sentimental, so if there's not the role, they simply won't nominate X or Y actor. She can campaign all her want, but we know it's not enough if there's no material.
-And again, the genre bias is clear. Having Yeoh and Quan nominated is just breaking barriers alone.

Does JLC have a meaty role in EEAAO?

I personally found JLC far more interesting in Knives Outshe was my favourite of the supporting cast, unlike in Everything Everywhere All at Once, where she is undeniably very good, but was third best of the supporting cast outside of Quan and Hsu. A nomination would not be undeserving, but it's not like this is career-defining work IMHO.

Evan Rachel Wood enters the Oscar race!
1. Scene-stealing comedy role
2. Playing a world-famous, recognisable icon
3. The role is a lot more substantial than we thought, based on the trailer.
4. Been acting since forever, so this will be a Welcome to the Club nomination. OVERDUE for a nom. Oscar voters will also recognise her from The Wrestler.
