Just because Lady Gaga missed, it doesn't mean all things go. I fell for the Penelope Cruz last minute buzz for the win (mostly because I didn't want to look like a fool again after really doubting her nomination too), but I have a feeling there wasn't much truth to it either. As for Kristen Stewart, it's pretty obvious she went from the clear frontrunner to a clear passion pick. After losing an easy Golden Globe when there still was the perception she was way ahead of everyone else, the SAG and BAFTA snubs happened, signaling how much people were struggling with her film. And if Julianne Moore hadn't helped afterwards, who knows if she would have pulled through? I think her fall was too big to believe she was anywhere close to the win in the end.

Kidman lost all the buzz by that point because Globes went out first and weren't even televised, they didn't factor much this year. After SAG, of course, BFCA was just an addition, but aw members kept fooling themselves till the last minute and tried to discredit Chastain. Cruz hope-predicting will always remain one of the biggest trying it on this website

She was the safest choice between the two actresses who had actually won something (especially since she defeated the Golden Globe winner, whose film had had a bit of a SAG overperformance too). And then, there were the crazy scenarios. The one which dominated the last few days was Penelope winning out of nowhere, thanks to those anonymous ballots.
