Jessica Chastain, Scenes from a Marriage
    Toni Collette, The Staircase
    Lily James, Pam & Tommy
    Margaret Qualley, Maid
    Julia Roberts, Gaslit
    Amanda Seyfried, The Dropout

[Olivia Colman, Landscapers (I don’t think she eventually makes it but I didn’t know she was in between Chastain and Collette so I guess she can happen), Viola Davis, The First Lady, Claire Foy, A Very British Scandal, Julia Garner, Inventing Anna, Sarah Paulson, American Crime Story: Impeachment (I’m not predicting her but her and this slate gives 2018 vibes, albeit it’s admittedly not as weak but still a bunch of spring flops), Michelle Pfeiffer, The First Lady]

I know the performance got a lot of negative feedback but I still can’t NOT predict Viola Davis playing Michelle Obama.

Would love a surprise nom for Mackenzie Davis but Station 11 is sadly feeling DOA.

Robert’s is very tempting but as a rule I don’t predict acting nominations for Starz. If I do predict her then I would think that at least one of Stevens, Gilpin, or Whigham also does.

So receiving a well-deserving nomination for a show people haven't seen but criticize based on the fact that its leading lady kicked out their less deserving favs? I'd like to see that!

I think these six will get nominated:
    Toni Collette, The Staircase
    Lily James, Pam & Tommy
Sarah Paulson, Impeachment: American Crime Story
    Margaret Qualley, Maid
    Julia Roberts, Gaslit
Renée Zellweger, The Thing About Pam

    Elle Fanning is my alternate.

Okay, these are more like a wish-list than predictions. Let's see what happens.

This is one category where I keep going back and tell myself, ‘something weird will happen.’ They have a lot of room to reflexively name check Colman and/or Paulson.

If they really nominate Viola, lol, I guess no publicity is bad. I wouldn’t expect her to be First Lady’s only acting nod, though, so adding her then makes me question other categories.

I could see that. I feel like this is one of the few acting categories where I am expecting something weird if only due to the high amount of viable contenders. I'm going with Foy as the more unexpected pick beyond the obvious frontrunners (Seyfried, Qualley).

It'll be funny if/when Davis and/or Garner make it in after how much people were dunking on their performances/shows.

    Final Predictions
    1. Amanda Seyfried, The Dropout
    2. Margaret Qualley, Maid
    3. Jessica Chastain, Scenes from a Marriage
    4. Toni Collette, The Staircase
    5. Julia Garner, Inventing Anna
    6. Lily James, Pam and Tommy

Seyfried and Qualley are locks, no chance they miss. I feel relatively good about Chastain and Collette. Chastain got that Oscar win and the show is prestigious enough compared to the other options. And Collette seemed to have peaked at the perfect time and I feel like her performance was a lot of people's favorite part of The Staircase. I'd feel more confident if she was in Supporting, but I still feel fine about her happening here. The last two spots are wide open. Going with Garner who is just having a Moment right now and Inventing Anna had a lot of eyes on it. Tentatively picking James for the last slot. I think even if people didn't watch the show, they know about her transformation. And she is campaigning hard. I thought the controversy would hurt, but with an unlimited ballot I don't think it'll hurt that much. I'm starting to be convinced about Biel, but just not convinced enough to predict her. And I just can't predict Roberts for a Starz program. If she happens I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'm just not using up a slot on something from Starz.

Nearly ten years ago. Netflix just entered the Emmys and all these other streaming services didn’t even exist! The landscape of television and limited series were much different. A lot less competitive than they are now.
