Stranger Things (Massacre at Hawkins Lab) - Duffer Bros
Ozark (A Hard Way to Go) - Jason Bateman
Severance (The We We Are) - Ben Stiller
Squid Game (Red Light, Green Light) - Hwang Dong-hyuk
Succession (All the Bells Say) - Mark Mylod
Succession (Retired Janitors of Idaho) - Kevin Bray
Succession (Too Much Birthday) - Lorene Scafaria

Regarding nominations, I'm pretty certain in Severance, one or two for Succession (especially the finale), and Squid Game. The rest is a crapshoot.

Now, regarding possible wins, as much as I think Squid Game did right by submitting it's strongest episode directing-wise, I'll be slightly miffed if it wins. Mark Mylod and Ben Stiller's work is just so much stronger, I hope it's between the two.

I hope Cathy Yan makes it for Succession. The Disruption was absolutely the best directed episode other than the finale.

Like many other categories this year, I believe there'll be at least 8, possibly 9 nominees here actually.

“A Hard Way to Go”, Ozark
    “The We We Are”, Severance
“Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab”, Stranger Things
    “All the Bells Say”, Succession
    “The Disruption”, Succession
    “Lion in the Meadow”, Succession
    “Retired Janitors of Idaho”, Succession
    “Too Much Birthday”, Succession
    “What It Takes” Succession

(ru: “Stand Still Like the Hummingbird”, Euphoria; “Red Light, Green Light”, Squid Game; “Laura”, The Morning Show; “La Amara Vita”, The Morning Show; “The You You Are”, Severance; “Plan and Execution”, Better Call Saul; “Let the Tournament Begin”, The Gilded Age; “Chapter Four: Dear Billy”, Stranger Things; “The Test”, Tokyo Vice)

Yeah I could actually see a little resurgence for Stranger Things this year... Also would not shock me if Succession just eats this category up and ends up with four or five nominations.

    Succession x3
    Squid Game
    Ozark
    Severance
    Stranger Things (Duffers)

Alts: Yellowstone (Sheridan), Morning Show, More Succession

The committee won't allow 9 nominations when more than half are for the same show. They lowkey already did the same last year.

Seven, but it's very close to eight (237 submissions/240 threshold) and might in a tie. DGA aside, highly doubt Succession will get that many.

There's also the Adam McKay of it all backed by HBO. This category is very open.

I love Succession but it really doesn't need five slots here. Nor does any show, really.

I agree Yan and Mylod deserve it the most. Scafaria's episode was fun as well. Pulcini and Springer Berman should've happened for season 2's "Safe Room" but I'm not sure about this time. All were good, though.

ETA: These submissions are fun to look at. I had no idea all those This Is Us cast members directed episodes of that show.

surprised by the lack of dear billy predictions, i think it's a pretty likely nominee wouldn't be surprised if both make it in it's not impossible with the hype. what happened at dga won't be repeating even think succession is only getting 2 here. then severance, ozark and squid game would round up the category.

Episode 1 and episode 4 of Pachinko come to mind. The other great direction that comes to mind is episode 1 of Tokyo Vice.

Netflix did just drop the trailer S4, Vol.2, which was so heavily Dear Billy/Max/Sink/Kate Bush focused, they clearly know this is their shot.
