DiCaprio was spotted on set way more than Plemmons, and it sounds like Scorsese inverted the story more to the perspective of the villains and Osage rather than the investigators.

Gosh I have no idea what to do here outside of DiCaprio. Not sure if Colin Firth is the lead opposite Olivia Colman? I could see him swept in if there's a lot of love for that film.

IIRC, Variety didn't/can't 'confirm' he's lead, they quoted an exec from Apple Original Films that he would be and Plemons would be supporting but we're still far from actual campaigns (although no one has been brave enough to push to same-gender leads for decades).

I'm not sure why Farrell rates so low (x3-tie for 10th presently). He's reteaming with Gleeson and McDonagh post-Billboards (who has directed two Oscars for acting) in a seemingly more personal story that will be focused on acting with an all-Irish cast. He works with auteurs when he can, leaned into character work as of late, and gave an unrecognisable performance in a popular movie this year. He'd also probably campaign hard, considering he just did a baity Ron Howard movie. The twice-nominated (for screenwriting) McDonagh won't have to deal with any Billboards backlash, as it ended up falling short of where things seemed to be headed at one point during the 2017 race.

I have no idea what the film will be like, but, at least on paper, he carries more potential than Bale. The race doesn't seem to be particularly competitive atp and would be ripe for someone with Farrell's resume to break in. He might even win the British Independent Film award and get another Globe nod.

I'm predicting Farrell and I feel like he's being underestimated too.

Empire of Light is still filming and Searchlight already has so many films this year, it's probably gonna be pushed for a Cannes 2023 premiere instead.
