The novel is based on Venezuela, although the real events happened in Bolivia. But part of the longer years of the abuse was precisely the mode of life and isolation of the communities from the authorities.

In this case, the cast is apt to indicated "otherness" and "isolation".
And, remember this (great) film about the Mennonites in Mexico.

Kasi Lemmons is not a good director but McCarten movies are beloved by the Academy, I dunno about removing that movie already

Remove The Northman from the next poll.

"And there on top of his head were faces like she had seen only in a dream, almost too beautiful to be recognized as people at all:
the most beautiful woman and the most beautiful man in the world, she the female version of him, and he the male version of her

Starting to wonder if Empire of Light will be 2023. If Searchlight were honest in that they'll keep it to a maximum of five theatrical releases per year and the rest goes to Hulu, then I can't fully grasp their roster for this upcoming season.

    Confirmed theatrical Searchlight releases 2022:
    - The Banshees of Inisherin (October 21, likely going to fall festivals?)
    - The Menu (November 18, not sure if festivals?)

Films that feels like potential theatrical Searchlight releases 2022:
    - Poor Things (Venice bound?)
    - Next Goal Wins (TIFF? It's testing and feels "commercial?")
    - Chevalier (Telluride?)

Which leaves Empire of Light out. I guess it can release late in LA/NY and expand wider in January and hence not being really counted as a "2022" film fully, but idk?

Maybe it was the weed and outstanding theater presentation, but I caught the Elvis trailer before The Northman today and that shit sure hit different than it does on a YouTube clip. Played great in the packed theater, and it got me thinking whether the punditry's actually been underrating that movie's awards potential. It's not like Warner Bros. has a ton of other ponies this year. Sure, it looks super corny. So was Bohemian Rhapsody. Who knows, maybe Butler nails it.

Yeah, Searchlight has a lot of stuff on their plate this year. Don't forget Flamin' Hot, Rye Lane and See How They Run.

It'll be interesting to see what makes it this year and what gets delayed to next or thrown onto Hulu. They will have to make some tough choices.

As is, here's what I'm thinking:

    Theatrical:
    - The Menu
    - Banshees of Inisherin
    - Poor Things
    - Next Goal Wins
    - Empire of Light

    Hulu:
    - Flamin' Hot
    - Rye Lane

    Could Go Either Way:
    - See How They Run (Should play well to the Only Murders crowd on Hulu, but star-studded)
    - Chevalier (I could see this playing a fest and the reaction determining where it ends up)

    Edit:

I'm diving through Searchlight's Twitter right now. See How They Run is theatrical, 2022.

I've assumed that the movie is going to do extremely well commercially, and I've still underrated its chances, mainly because of The Great Gatsby and Rocketman. But, if Butler gets otherworldly reviews, maybe the movie can break those barriers.

Didn't even think about that one. Yeah it looks very stacked.
