GOYA AWARDS 2022: Un Año (de cine), Una Noche (de premios)

As @Jali suggested some days ago, it can be better now to open a new thread for the Goyas, as we have been using the old one during 3 years in a row and that can be unpractical for someone looking for info/discussion.

In the old thread @picolandia has listed the names of some directors whose movies could contend this year for some noms/wins. I think we can discuss those movies as far as we know more about them here. Anyway, this year there are many interesting names that could make a very exciting cinematic harvest.

It is a difficult thing to fix, because once you win a Goya, you deserve to say whatever you want, but at the same time, the ceremony is mainly a TV show.
I may be wrong because I am to lazy to look at the rules, lol, but i believe that there was a rule that for European Film and Iberoamerican film only 1 person could receive the award or talk on stage. Imo, that should be done in all categories with more than 2 or 3 winners. Imagine if all the winners of documentary short talk on stage...
That said, I found hilarious the moment when Chelo Loureiro talks and you can see the producers of the film behind her exasperated because they also want to thank or say something but she doesn't let them say anything and the time runs out.

I also liked a lot la Llergo. Hi Penélope! So sweet.

The music elements of the gala were... whatever... I wonder if they got paid and how much, because C. Tangana was there for... 10 seconds?, it was Rita Payés the one that owned that song, and he just appeared to sing 10 seconds and dance 5 seconds. The opening number was also pretty awful, I loooooove Cristina Castaño, but she should stick to comedy, Bebe was great, she should have sing the song alone.

EDIT: I hope Blanca Portillo does a biopic of Lina Morgan!!! She looks to her a lot!!!

Regarding this new year. I wonder if this will be the year were Oriol Paulo finally makes an impact on the Goyas. Los renglones torcidos de dios is one of those classic books than can go either way, but I have no doubt that, internationally, once again, the film will be a big hit and that Bárbara Lennie can be a threat to win her second Goya, the character's arc is to big to ignore and she will have room to show her acting talent again.

Oh I had no idea there was an adaptation in the works of Luca de Tena’s novel. And with Lennie in the Lead. Hopefully that will turn out great

Los renglones torcidos de Dios will certainly get a lot of attention. The presence of Lennie as the lead character, plus Eduard Fernández, could give the picture the extra prestige Paulo needs. I also think that it could go either way, but probably in the same way previous Paulo's work has been (I think nor his crazy supporters nor his biggest detractors are right). There are also some actors who had been awesome in some of their TV roles (Pablo Derqui, Loreto Mauleón) and could get in strong with this movie.
We could still see more names attached (Coronado has worked in his 3 movies and his TV show, so maybe he also shows up here somewhere, who knows).
When it comes to awards... everything could happen with Paulo, I think. Contratiempo was snubbed for the Goyas, according to many, due to its releasing date and late distribution/campaign... and won Worst Picture at the Yoga (which are completely random, I know). It could perfectly have been the opposite and getting 12-14 noms at the Goyas. That's how Paulo movies feel, because they are superpopular, especially among people who usually don't like Spanish cinema. He's our own Shyamalan and as him, it is difficult to know what to expect, besides certain kind of movie.

But, let's not forget it: 2022 is going to be stacked.

And that's one of the reasons he is the right choice to adapt the Tena's novel.

I've never read it, but I plan to do it before the movie comes out.

Check this. Maybe what happened on the stage was something different. Maybe they wanted to say something else and she wanted to be sure they wouldn't...

Tragic. The Academy should retire her the Goya award until everything is solved on the tribunals, because if that is true she is not the winner of the Goya because she didn't direct or produce the film.

At the end, the best way to get the "Automatic Goya" is not to make an animated movie. It is to not make it, but to put your name in the credits anyway. This deserves "Gora Automatikoa 2".

One Year, One Night, starts with good critics at Berlín. Look very solid on technical parts, and the two leads got good ink. Maybe too early for Goyas, but sounds big (for Spanish industry at least).

Luis Martínez of El Mundo (a critic that i mostly like because he is very enthusiastic about films even being quite highbrow), talk about a chance of Golden Bear. But (and this is very interesting) talk twice about Alcarras (not saying but saying) like a very important film.

Isaki finally entered the Academy with Entre dos aguas, and the supporting cast is strong enough. The film will have chances of getting nominated depending on the rest of the contenders.

One stat that I suddenly saw: Blanca Portillo now joins Paz Vega, Amparo Baró and Javier Cámara as members of the first season of 7 vidas that has won a Goya. Toni Cantó is the only member of the 5 leads that has never won or being nominated. In the first seasons also appeared Gonzalo de Castro but his character wasn't as important to the series.

Very funny stat. Tony is never going to win.

Javier Zurro of El Español and Víctor Esquirol os Otros Cines (and Apitchatpoller) also very high with Lacuesta. So, i feel Spanish critic is going to be with the film. Is a big film, made in the industry, so is good news.

Have you seen El embarcadero? If you love her here, with El embarcadero "vas a flipar". And, also from Freixas, you have the similar Sé quién eres, which is much better (but also not so messy, so if it is the mess what you enjoy, maybe that one is too boring ).

I think the prediction I am more comfortable with, one year in advance, is Javier Gutiérrez being nominated for Modelo 77. Well, probably Dora Postigo in breakthrough is even more a sure thing (but you can never know how this category could go and we already have Raphaëlle Pérez and Laura Galán in movies that denounce certain kinds of discrimination which these actresses have problem suffer themselves, so that's a strong narrative).

If de la Torre doesn't get a nom, this would be his worst strike since his first nomination (3 years without a nom - just after a strike of 6 noms in 4 years).

Me la apunto. I belive it's on Movistar +

I was looking at what won Malaga last year. Incredible that El vientre del mar won son many awards, considering is an awful film. Ama, Destello bravío and Chavalas deserved.

Now that Berlin is coming to its end, it is the time to start speculating about which titles could end up showing up in Cannes. In my opinion, the official section will remain free from Spanish titles (since Coixet's selection in 2009, all the Spanish movies in the OS have been Almodóvar's or directed by a foreign director: del Toro, Iñárritu, Farhadi...).
When it comes to the sideline sections, we have several movies that I think could make it in: Serra's, Rosales', J. Trueba's...
My prediction right now is that we'll get Serra's and Rosales' but none of them in the OS.

I've got a feeling that one spanish movie will be in OS. Not sure why or what, but this is the year. Alcarràs first Goya frontrunner? Maybe is not very "industrial" (Elastica is going to be the distributor, probably very early opening), but the raves looks not only a festival thing.
