Just seen the Croatian entry, agree on its shortlist potential (didn't love it, but it sure hits a nerve)

    My 15 bets:

    Alcarras (Spain)
All Quiet on the Western Front (Germany)
Argentina 1985 (Argentina) - I'm predicting this to win the whole thing if nominated atm
    Bardo (Mexico)
    Boy From Heaven (Sweden)
    Close (Belgium)
    Decision to Leave (South Korea)
    EO (Poland)
    Girl Picture (Finland)
    Holy Spider (Denmark)
    Joyland (Pakistan)
    The Quiet Girl (Ireland)
    Safe Place (Croatia)
    Saint Omer (France)
    Winners (UK)

    alts: Colombia, Ukraine, Morocco, Austria.

I guess Middle East feels underrepresented here - but then again Europe has kept telling their stories (Holy Spider, Winners). As for African representation same ol' - maybe Morocco (instead of Croatia for instance)? Joyland might be wishful thinking even for the top 15, without proper distribution heh

I also wish Portugal was competitive for once

Was it ever reported on that The Box was apparently picked up by MUBI?

I'm only finding it out the day they're releasing it in theatres.

The thing about The Box is that its Letterboxd score is mediocre (2.9, Bardo is 3.8!)

But it sure it’s showing in a lot of places. It went to Venice, TIFF, San Sebastián…

What’s the temperature on this category? What’s out in front? It seems pundits have positioned All Quiet as the winner for now, but Decision to Leave seems like the obvious frontrunner to me.

Also Argentina 1985. A total crowd pleaser and a film with an "important" vibe to it.

As for now. All Quiet on the Western Front, Decision to Leave, Close and Argentina, 1985 look like the favourites for the noms, with Saint Omer and Corsage on the next round. But in this category, there's always space for surprise.

I'd say the win will be between Close, Argentina 1985, and All Quiet on the Western Front.

Interesting. Thank you for the responses. I guess I’ll wait for more critics awards and I guess the Globes to chime in, but Decision to Leave feels like it’s the only one that has any particular…buzz (???) non-awards wise. But perhaps my obsession with it since I’ve seen it has made it more insular to me. It felt like All Quiet, for instance, kinda came and gone — or is on the road to doing so, and I feel Park Chan-wook is growing even likelier for that international director slot. I don’t know. I hope it wins this category, it’s surely deserving.

What are you talking about? That movie has very good audience scores and is being widely seen on Netflix.

They are so amazing, they should work together right now.

I was mainly referring to public/mainstream conversation. I felt like I haven’t really heard anyone discussing it outside of the awards sphere or even in cinephile areas of social media. But again, I don’t routinely check in on this category and I just saw that it’s still in Netflix’s top 10, so perhaps it’s doing better than I thought.

Yeah this one probably has the edge atm. Though I think Decision to Leave could gain steam in a mini-Drive My Car kind of way now. RRR would have been really interesting though.

I'm still kind of scared of Close.

Good thing Close doesn't have a great history at the Oscars kidding

If it gets nominated and lost, it'll also be Belgium's 8th nom without a win

Yup. Only second to Israel in that regard. They are at ten nominations without a win.

Argentina, 1985 would be such a boring winner
