This one is extremely AMPAS friendly indeed! I think it's a very likely shortlist title in fact.

I saw the director’s last film- “Memories on Stone”- which was submitted by Iraq in 2015. Strong film made under difficult conditions…and difficult to ever forget the tragicomic ending. The director knows how to mix the two very well.

Argentina, 1985 starts with a 4.38 and #33 placement on the Letterboxd Top 250. I really didn't expect this.

I wonder if Amazon will do campaign ala Cold War, cause the raves are there, the audience numbers are also there, the subject is baity and Amazon has nothing to lose.

I'm not the biggest fan of Argentina, 1985. It's like if Spotlight were a good film . It has all the topics of that kind of films but with good humor (not sure how it works out Argentina/Latam). It's more an important film that one that i can love, but happy being a hit at theatres (even with the boicot of big chains). My cinema (in Chile) was sold out yesterday and after the film a man stood up and shouted: "fascism is still among us, let's be vigilant and don't stop fighting", and the people burst into applause. It was a great moment because we are still depressed for the constitutional referendum.

I've seen 19 of the films. Here's how I would break down their chances at making the shortlist:

On the Bubble: All Quiet on the Western Front, Utama, Joyland, The Blue Caftan, Holy Spider, Klondike, EO, Victim, Saint Omer, Alcarràs

Probably Out: Nostalgia, Plan 75, Under the Fig Trees, Domingo and the Mist, Girl Picture, Mars One

Right after I saw the film, I took it out of my predictions altogether, for the very reasons you mention. But with time, it just started to make sense again as the 5th pick. A European Cannes film or Klondike (if it gets a decent distributor) can still take its place, but I'll stick with it for the moment.
