I've only seen her in two films. One of which - Brooklyn - is damn near perfection. The other - Lady Bird - how do I critique it tactfully? Well, I had no difficulty accepting Ronan as an American teenager. I just didn't find her particular American teenager interesting enough to have a film made about her.![]()
Happy for Ronan, who seems to be in her prolific era. She could have three films released next year!
I wonder how this ties in (if at all) to McQueen's documentary, Occupied City, about Amsterdam under Nazi occupation. That's in post, and A24 is distributing.
The contortions and gymnastics of the arguments against Saoirse here![]()
Why would I hate Ronan. She’s just a hugely overpraised actress.
All Saoirse does is collect Oscar noms and mind her own business. She's not even remotely close to be overexposed unlike some AW favorites either
Ronan simply never worked with a director willing to really challenge her. Let me se that, let me see something like JLaw in mother! and I'll change my mind. This sounds like a good prestigious project but still totally in her comfort zone. Far from exciting.
Oh Queen is about to assume the position!
Saoirse haters are always the saddest of motley crews here on AW. Like, at least when other people hate, it usually produces something funny!
Boran lacks edginess and unpredictability. She plays it too safe.
If this becomes an Oscar contender, Ronan could break the record for youngest actor to receive 5 acting nominations.
Assuming it comes out next year for the 2024 Oscars, she'd be 29 years old by the time nominations are announced.
Kate Winslet (the current record holder) was 31 when she got her 5th nomination for Little Children.
It'd be quite the achievement for Ronan.
I think that's because this site is way more aware of the acclaim she gets since we analyze reviews and stuff.
I'm not a gigantic stan of her but when she serves, she serves. She has yet to receive an Oscar nomination that I think is bad (I would rank Brooklyn last because I think she's just fine in it but it isn't a bad performance), Lady Bird and Little Women are a terrific combo. I wouldn't say that she ONLY has good performances with Gerwig, however I do think her performances in her films are on another level.
Yes.
Assuming she does get nominated, then she'll break the record as long as this movie is released in either the 2023 or 2024 calendar years. By 2025 she'd have missed her window.
So even if this comes out next year and doesn't work out for her, she'll still have one last chance in 2024.
