The motivation in the original Scream clearly had sexist undertones. Besides, it’s not like Billy cared about Sidney at all as a girlfriend. I think trying to murder her shows that way more than cheating on her?

Besides, I understand that Billy only started to date Sidney AFTER he killed her mother, as part of his uncontrollable anger. The homewrecker woman that he killed had a daughter and he wasn’t satisfied in killing just her as revenge, he wanted to put out his mommy’s boy anger for what happened to him into everyone else and in the daughter of the woman in particular.

So he started to date Sidney because he wanted to fuck her (a control game where he asserts his dominance and control of his life to himself in his mind) while getting this sick pleasure of sleeping with the daughter of the woman he murdered without her knowing what he did - which is something mind torture that that these psychos take pleasure on as their main source of personal satisfaction.

Sidney wouldn’t have sex with him though, so he kept dating her until she did. When he started killing people he probably had already thought he was never sleeping with her so it didn’t matter much to him whether he slept with her or killed her first.

In the meantime, it’s not out of this world that he was seeing someone else at all. Maybe he even cared about (or loved?) Cristina in a way that he didn’t for Sidney. Maybe Cristina was his ACTUAL girlfriend in the sense he planned to live alongside her and constitute a family with her after he concluded his murder spree.

I mean, Cristina was not a target in the original Scream like Sidney (Billy girlfriend), Tatum (Stu girlfriend) or Casey Becker (Stu ex-girlfriend). So that is potential evidence that Billy wanted to keep her for a reason. Maybe she even knew what Billy was doing and loved him because she’s a psychopath herself.

Which is why there’s a wonderful door to make Cristina appear in Scream VII or in Scream VIII trying to reconnect with Sam and Tara just for her in the end to turn out as the killer. BANG! And it’s revealed that there were three killers in the original Scream all along, but Cristina was more supervising the thing from distance.

If Scream 5 mirrors Scream 1 and Scream 6 mirrors Scream 2, it’s inevitable that future killers will appear on Sam family line since in Scream 3 it was Sidney’s half-brother and in Scream 4 it was Sidney’s cousin. If not a family member, maybe Sam herself! That would be terrible messaging of mental health after she was portrayed as someone who carries a huge amount of past childhood snd teenage trauma though. So I think it’s more likely that Cristina will be a killer in a future movie. She also DOES have motives to kill both Sidney and Gale as revenge for taking out Billy. Tara too for being the child she had with another man and never loved.

And they can play this well with Sam if Cristina tries to convince her to join her side and become a murderer like her biological FATHER AND MOTHER. They can put in some villain speech about being in her blood and that it’s only her inevitable fate to repeat the same stuff that both her parents did as if it was inescapable trend and then in the last moment Sam kills her mother, saves everyone and finally overcomes her visions and traumas once and for all by establishing that she’s never repeating what her family did because she’s not like them.

Ughhh it would be such a great ending for this group of characters storyline. Great character arc conclusion for SAM. If Scream 7 is supposed to be the last one with them, I hope they do it!
I get that, I'm just still annoyed that they made Sam, Billy's daughter. I think that there is a bit too much teen Billy idolization in these current films, when we find out that it was actually Roman who masterminded the entire thing. It's a bit weird for me, it's like Scream 3 never existed.
Covert racism is a form of racial discrimination that is disguised and subtle, rather than public or obvious. Concealed in the fabric of society, covert racism discriminates against individuals through often unnoticeable or seemingly passive methods.

Black women are constantly silenced, ignored and punished.

This is a retcon I would fully support

Angelina was supposed to be the second killer in the third one. Maybe they'll bring Emily Mortimer back in the next one and reveal she was the mastermind behind the mastermind.

Why anyone would want to retcon Parker Posey's performance, Gale's iconic bangs (an important part of her journey!), a Carrie Fisher cameo, and 100% Cotton... Oh, and a perfect final shot, is beyond me!

If you were Jennifer Jolie and survived being stabbed/possibly shot by accident (which I'm not arguing happened), would you return to a slasher franchise that inspired it? Seriously. I don't think everyone would, given the circumstances.

Did he though? My impression from Scream 3 was that he simply did gossip about Maureen to Billy and Billy decided to kill her by himself.

Maybe Roman added some fuel to the fire that he already saw it existed but that’s it. I don’t see him as a mastermind of anything when he was just gossiping around.

Like, how he would even KNOW that Billy would kill anyone? Did he approach him and said: “Hey, that woman is the reason your mom left you, why don’t you kill her?”

No one has a way to predict this. You don’t tell people they got fucked over something expecting they will turn into serial killers because of this.

If anything, Billy snapped himself and Roman was inspired by him. At least that’s how I see it. Roman only wanted to build his importance in front of Sidney with this “mastermind” narrative.

Melissa Barrera said in an interview she wants Salma Hayek to play her mom in the next one.

Anyway, my rank of killers - in spoilers because includes Scream VI, don’t open if you didn’t watch it - is:

    1. Jill Roberts (Scream 4)
    2. Billy Loomis (Scream)
    3. Nancy Loomis/Debbie Salt (Scream 2)
    4. Mickey Altieri (Scream 2)
    5. Stu Macher (Scream)
    6. Amber Freeman (Scream 5)
    7. Richie Kirsh (Scream 5)
    8. Roman Bridger (Scream 3)
    9. Detective Bailey (Scream 6)
    10. Charlie Walker (Scream 4)
    11. Quinn Bailey (Scream 6)
    12. Ethan?? Bailey (Scream 6)

Scream 6 killers were the blandest as killers, they got completely different personalities after the reveal - at least Quinn and Ethan. I was enjoying their characters before they reveal, I though they were actually funny, unlike some other past comedic sidekicks.

Jill is easily the best of all. Not only she was the closest to get away with it, her motivation was also so real and ahead of its time. People DO anything to be noticed these days, just take a look at the rise of instagram influencers.

Jill Roberts at number 1, I know that's right! Scream 4 arrived at JUST the right time to provide commentary about the desire for followers before it became a more broadly spoken about topic. It's still so relevant now as well.

Plus Emma Roberts is just excellent in that 3rd act. She EATS

I kinda wish we had gotten the original 4-5-6 trilogy that was planned back then, with Jill surviving the 4th movie and then no epilogue, only a scene with a cop screaming there’s still a survivor in the house as a cliffhanger.

And in then Scream 5 we learn it’s Sidney, who has amnesia and doesn’t remember Jill was a killer. We follow Jill at college, where she’s actually stalked by a real Ghostface killer, having to fully endure with everything that cones along with being the new Sidney like she dreamed of.

Too bad the studio didn’t allow cliffhanger endings. It would be a nice change to not have every movie story closed in itself.

I think Jill is a great Ghostface in theory, I just really don't like Emma Roberts in that role. I know it's an unpopular opinion but I wish they casted literally anyone else. Maybe someone with a more innocent look would have worked better.

You're over thinking this. She's dead.

I agree that her acting was a little iffy. I also think 4 would have been better if Jill survived, but they killed it with the goofy scene in the hospital.
