Introducing the AW Emmy Gold Rush

This is something I have been thinking about doing for a while, and I am incredibly excited to start up for the very first time.

For those unfamiliar with Gold Rush. Each year on the Film Awards side of things, the AW collective go through several contests throughout the year to crown the best of the best when it comes to predicting.

Now we are going to try the same, with the inaugural Emmy Gold Rush. Things will be slightly different than the film awards circuit. We’re only going to focus on the Emmys for now, so: the nominations stage, and then the creative arts and Primetime Emmy Awards winner ceremonies. BUT, if it’s a success we can consider expanding it in the future. I kind of think that the Emmys are so different to the rest of the television awards circuit that these are kind of the only ones that matter anyway.

I'll use this thread to post score totals, and just general discussion. I'll put up the nominations thread later tonight, but here are the categories I'm thinking we will roll with. If you have any other suggestions, if you want some of the technical categories to be included, and if there is consensus on that, then I'll be happy to adapt the list. The format will work exactly the same as the Film gold rush, points for every correct nominee, and then a bonus for an entire category.

    The categories:
    Outstanding Drama Series
    Outstanding Comedy Series
    Outstanding Limited Series

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series
Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series
Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series
Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series
Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series
Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series
Outstanding Directing For A Comedy Series
Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series
Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series
Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series
Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series
Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series
Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series
Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Limited Series or Movie
Outstanding Lead Actress In A Limited Series or Movie
Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Limited Series or Movie
Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Series or Movie
Outstanding Directing For A Limited Series or Movie
Outstanding Writing For A Limited Series or Movie
    Outstanding Television Movie

    Outstanding Variety Talk Series
    Outstanding Variety Sketch Series
    Outstanding Variety Special (Live)
    Outstanding Variety Special (Recorded)

    Outstanding Competition Program
Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program
    Outstanding Documentary or Non-Fiction Series
    Outstanding Animated Program

    Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance
    Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics

Anything you feel I've missed? I considered casting but it would be weird to only include that as a single technical category, and it really only ends up being an extension of the series categories anyway. Is four variety categories too much? Sketch being two nominees seems ridiculous, and the Live Variety special category is pretty boring to predict.

All suggestions welcome, we're about a month away from the nominations and I'll stick the thread up later tonight!

Per my counting, has Character Voice-Over Performance been bumped up to 7 this year?

These feel fine. The tech categories are too clobbered so it'a good those arent included

Limited Series will only have 5 nominees.

Yeah just changed that, no idea why I put six in. If you could all change your template, that would be appreciated!

Four days to go! @Bee @Kostas just remember when you're finalizing your predictions to remove the extra slot in Limited Series. That was a formatting error on my part.

Just seen that the Emmys are (thankfully) not announcing the nominations until 8:30 AM pacific time. So I've edited the deadline slightly, so you have until 10 AM Eastern Time tomorrow.

Just under 24 hours to go to finalize your submissions!

Yeah I mean it's always been one of the benefits of being in the UK, that I've never been affected by any of these early starts I know it's an absolute nightmare for people on the West Coast though.

yeah, itís usually perfect for me being in nyc. Donít normally have to wait the whole day for it to happen but itís never obscenely early. Iíll let the west coasters have this one!

Girl, try the other side of the world. I literally have to either stay up really late or set an alarm for nominations announcements

About to send my ballot, btw why didn't we have an Outstanding Documentary or Non-Fiction Special category btw @chrispepper? Just saw that it's only Series and not Special. Just wondering!

It definitely tripped some people up in their predictions.

I think best Narrator would also be a fun option next time (maybe even the short acting categories?)

Yeah I only went for the series category because I think it has been the more interesting category in recent years, and the special can have a little bit of overlap with the Oscars. With the rule changes next year to exclude Oscar films, I think it makes sense to include both next time around.

Sorry for the confusion this might have caused. Basically, if you're predicting Boys state you've got the wrong category!

I'm here for Narrator, but not the Shorts Acting! We need to retire those in general. Since Rosamund already has won, the category has already served its purpose.

Ok here we go, results time!

Thank you to everyone that submitted, I can't believe we got over 30 people for an Emmys prediction contest, let alone such a relatively low-key Emmys at that. Without further ado here we go. Congratulations to... me and well done to all of the people in the Top 10, and of course everyone else as well
