I have edited the opening post with the Season 8 winners, now @ladylurks is in the hall of fame as a winner, and @DameOctaviaSpencer as runner up!![]()
And I guess with all the awards and S&S hopla this isn't a great moment to announce it, but I guess I'll remind voters once we're closer to the time of the upcoming seasons, but for the upcoming seasons, I was planning to:
1- Have them in late March, and April-May (hopefully finishing before Cannes).
2- Have twin seasons (perhaps with fewer participants), not separatred by a long time, maybe only by a week or two. Maybe shorter seasons (just 9 rounds instead of 11?) if the players want to.
3- The reason for making them twin seasons, is that both would be focused on turn-of-the-century (that is, 19th to 20th century) movements, and movements that we have already done, but split differently. The last time I made a turn-of-century season, most people ditched the post-impressionists in favor of the symbolists. So, since we already picked most of the big impressionists in Season 3, my idea was grouping now, this time, the post-impressionists with the impressionists. That way, people who are not into post-impressionists can still pick an impressionist (we played many of the big ones, but there are still magnificent painters left), and others can pick post-impressionists (there are so many big ones still un-played: Gaugin, Seurat, Rousseau...).
4- So, the subsequent turn-of-century, twin, season would be focused on symbolism, art-nouevau and decadentism. We played many biggies, but this era is ripe for re-discovery and there are hundreds that are worth playing. In fact, it probably won't be the last season with this theme.
In short, the idea is:
LATE MARCH & APRIL: IMPRESSIONISM AND PRE- AND POST-IMPRESSIONISM.
APRIL AND EARLY MAY: SYMBOLISM, DECADENTISM AND ART NOUVEAU
I hope people are as excited about these two seasons as I am. They're the ones I was most anxious to play.
You have a lot of time to pick a painter if you want to participate. As of now, I think I have more or less "reserved" @Habsburg for "Impressionism and Post-Impressionism" with Rousseau, if dear Habsy wants to, and @CINNAMON with, tentatively, James McNeill Whistler. I will of course participate, but I'm still undecided between many painters.
In the first page you can find every painter that was ever played, but here I post...
SOME IMPRESSIONIST AND POST-IMPRESSIONIST PAINTERS, WITH THOSE ALREADY PLAYED OR RESERVED SCRATCHED:
From the core group of Impressionism:
Frédéric Bazille
Gustave Caillebotte
Mary Cassatt
Edgar Degas
Armand Guillaumin
Édouard Manet
Claude Monet
Berthe Morisot
Camille Pissarro
Pierre-Auguste Renoir
Alfred Sisley
From outside France, I recommend this wikipedia link, but have in mind that the following have already been played:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impres...#Beyond_France
Childe Hassam
Konstantin Korovin
Valentin Serov
Joaquin Sorolla
Ignacio Pinzao Camarlench
Worry not, there are still countless that could easily win a Painter Idol season).
From Pre-Impressionism, or those artists that influenced it the most, you could pick, for instance:
Camille Corot
Eugéne Boudin
People who are considered precursors of impressionism too, like Manet, Turner or Courbet have already been played.
And, from post-impressionism or neo-impressionism, I also recommend this Wikipedia entry, but I add this list of suggestions, with those already played scratched:
Paul Gaugin
Vincent Van Gogh
Georges Seurat
Paul Signac
Henri Toulouse-Lautrec
Paul Cézanne
Édouard Vuillard
But there are many, many more, here's the link:

In a couple of days I'll do something similar for the symbolists, decadentists and art-nouveau painters.
Thanks to everyone who wants to participate, and see you soon!
