Years ago i was thinking, is it possible a female co-star outshine Jack Lemmon in a comedy flick? Well, say no more... Miss Anne Bancroft just did in The Prisoner of Second Avenue.

Every pathos, outburst, comic delivery is as effective and believable as Lemmon's, if not maybe even slightly better. Particularly in the latter act, Bancroft closes the movie with an unexpected high comic mark.

"WHERE'RE YOU GONNA GET THE WAT-AH?!?!"

The film is good, but can be better. As usual with Neil Simon's screenplay there are times it fully works and there are times it comes as flat.

Though i have yet to see It Happened to Jane, so maybe that one?

Also this is an important PSA to y'all. Future Anne Bancroft actress canon is m-i-n-e!

LOVED Bancroft in Prisoner on Second Avenue. I just didn't care for the movie that much.

Neil Simon's works are a bit underwhelming sans Murder by Death imo.
