God I wish I’d loved The Devil is a Woman as much as everyone else. I found it totally inert and a much less successful rehash of almost every other Marlene/von Sternberg collaboration. But I’ll try to give it another viewing at some point.

Looks like a phenomenal Pride line-up coming to the Criterion Channel in June: https://thefilmstage.com/the-criteri...-russell-more/

HUSTLE. LOYALTY. RESPECT.
Omg, next month is stacked. So many things I can have on my watchlist.
Here's the August lineup for the Criterion Channel.

"And there on top of his head were faces like she had seen only in a dream, almost too beautiful to be recognized as people at all:
the most beautiful woman and the most beautiful man in the world, she the female version of him, and he the male version of her"
The collection of the restored films of Nelly Kaplan is leaving at the end of this month. I highly, highly recommend seeing at least her debut feature La Fiancée du Pirate (sadly listed under its puerile English title A Very Curious Girl) before it's gone. A subversive, hilarious satire about misogyny and slut-shaming.
Was really hoping this would get the official Blu-ray treatment as there's no other way to see it with English subtitles at the moment.
The Holy Trinity:
Satyajit, Sharmila, and Soumitra
Glad that Nightmare Alley was added, I can watch it before GDT’s version comes out.
Hopefully this means that Bright Star is finally getting a Blu-ray release.
Excited to finally be able to stream Asako I+II! I've no excuse for not having sat down for Happy Hour yet, but I think I'll finally have to make it happen. Presumably Drive My Car will eventually come to the Channel as well...
So happy that these docs are finally accessible to so many more people, considering that a year ago they were all impossible to track down. There wasn't even a Letterboxd page for Battered as of last spring, I had to add it. I hope some of you check them out.
