Yes. This is the main reason why I think she's a shoo-in for now (for the nom at least). It's sort of a historical nomination if it happens, and they won't even try to snub her.
This August, we're celebrating Michelle and Ethan!

I think that was also the last time anyone not white was nominated in that category?

Oh, and the last black actor nominated in comedy lead actress was Phylicia Rashad in 1986. Fun!

It's true. That category and Drama Actor are the only two acting categories that have not had a minority nominated in the last 10 years (and that includes Guest and Movie/Mini categories).

Everyone talks about how the Oscars need to diversify but the Emmys are much more troubling on that front. Should be more attention on that.

But the Emmy's keep on awarding André Braugher, isn't that diversity?

Definitely reflective of the state of diversity of American television, though.

Yeah. As with the Oscars, it's more of a problem of there being too few high profile roles for minorities in first place, rather than with the body that awards these roles.

This is true, although the demographics of these voting bodies doesn't help. AMPAS is, what, like 2% black?

Yeah but when there are African Americans in contention, they're usually nominated at least. It's hard to find a shocking snub in the last decade.

Good podcast, guys! It was very interesting to hear your thoughts about the race, as I know pretty much nothing about the Emmys. Now when the nominations will come out, I'll have some sort of an idea about who got snubbed and who's surprising.

I want to set the Emmy nomination reaction podcast for Thursday the 18th, the day of the nominations. I don't really care what time but those that are interested and able or free either mid-afternoon or early evening please PM me.

I finally listened to this yesterday when I was working on my final predictions. I was trying to predict ahead of you guys so I didn't feel lke I was copying...and then everyone would have the same picks as me anyway. Weird how a consensus can form even with something as nutty and random as the Emmys, which always makes me scared for how they're going to go against expectations.

But awesome work! I'm excited for the next podcast.

Finally got to listen to the second one. You guys had such great rapport and I found it really enjoyable. After listening to this however I think the forums should be re-named "Weaves, Wigs and Shade"

For some reason I couldn't get a copy of the first one?
